Z80 Programmer, audio driver

Hello There, Been long time I didn't pass by  . I'm the one of the guy behind Pier Solar, the megadrive game that was released few years ago. I've been recoding from scratch all our audio part for a game and I'm looking for a Z80 programmer to code a simple & efficient Z80 audio driver. Fea...

Ok, so sorta short timelapse.

Back in devega times, we had like 10-12 entries I recall. Prizes, I don't recall any. Maybe was 50 bucks. Is monetary price good or bad you think? Modded HW is good too, indeed.

Is BasicEgaZorg community still active? I don't have news from Devster for a while now.

MD Coding compo (Ideas / Feasability)

Hi There! Do you think there is room for a MD coding compo? The last "big" one, I think, was @ the old "devega" website, unless I missed some since. Not sure anyone will participate to the Cergy compo either. But if it was a MD-only compo? Would enough people get in? If so, what kind of deadlines gi...

VDMLAB coding compo, in FRANCE, cool prizes.

Hi There, I'm no longer very active on gendev but still! There is something neat going-on: A coding compo in which megadrive is welcome + has cool rules. The prizes are neat: You get your game published in a real "arcade-like" cabinet, customized for your game + I think about 1000usd for the three f...

One rule I learnt is to not make "random of a random", see. I used to have : 1- A "precalculated" random numbers table (3 7 8 6 4 2 0 ....) 2- The initial pointer was set by timing user inputs (joypad delay to press start at titlescreen). 3- Everytime I wanted a random value, jump "randomely" (using...

I concur with Tiido, the color update trick works all the time, no need any code modification, just put in your game loop a 1c change (equiv to 3 writes to VDP I think) between every single functions you want to benchmark and watch what's going on. Since most games shall run their "game code" durin...

Yeah, the sprite mask is not a bug, its definitively a feature. We used it in Pier Solar and every single system ran it perfectly. Few more things : - The sprite list must be uploaded very early in VBLANK as the VDP do pre-process stuff before the next screen even starts. If you fail to do so, you w...

Quite cool :)
One thing however, do you get any CPU time left during VACTIVE? That was always the issue I got with making rasters. And a shooter need a lot of collide computations, life is unfair!
